Car manufacturer Honda has stopped several productions worldwide. The company appears to have been hit by a cyber attack. Its nature is not clear; there are rumors that it is ransomware.

Honda does not say anything about the infection on its own, but admits to Jalopnik that it does indeed have production problems. This is due to ‘a failure in the computer network’. That would have an impact on the manufacturer’s work.

Honda does not say the exact nature of the problems or how widespread they are. According to a company spokesperson, the problems would mainly occur in Europe and America, but not in Japan. In the US, employees of a factory were said to have been sent home after their systems were found not to work.

Jalopnik has also seen reports from employees who say that they can’t get into their systems because of ransomware. The problems are said to have started on Sunday. On Monday discovered a security researcher malware samples that included domains from Honda. This would be the Ekans ransomware. This ransomware is made to attack industrial systems in particular.
