Guerrilla Games has released Horizon Zero Dawn patch 1.02 for PC. In particular, the update should put an end to crashes that players of the game experience on their systems.

Patch 1.02 for the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn should resolve several causes for crashes. Among other things, boot problems should be over when the ‘game optimization’ screen appears if users run out of free disk space. Additionally, the update fixes crashes when updating graphics drivers after the game has already been optimized to run on a system.

Guerrilla has also made graphics improvements: some players noticed that facial animations were out of sync because they were fixed at 30fps; this problem has been resolved. In addition, the automatic save performance has been improved. The creator of the sci-fi game has published the full release notes of patch 1.02 on Reddit.

This is the second patch for Horizon Zero Dawn on the PC. Patch 1.01 already addressed several issues, including crashes when starting Steam. Problems remain that have to do with 4k and hdr rendering and gpu-related issues. Guerrilla acknowledges that these have not yet been fixed, but the patches would at least improve diagnostic logging to better identify the issues.

Horizon Zero Dawn was released for PC on August 7, but complaints from players with problems started building up soon after its release.
