Google has released Chrome 73 for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. The desktop version now includes support for hardware media keys. Another new feature, dark mode, is only available on the Mac platform for now.

Chrome 73’s dark mode ties in nicely with the dark display of macOS 10.14 Mojave. This new feature is still missing in the Windows version. However, Google had indicated early this year that a dark mode for Chrome on Windows was in development. Windows 10 has offered the option for a dark display of apps since 2016. The browsers Edge and Firefox are already using it.

Chrome 73 now includes support for the hardware media buttons on select keyboards and headsets, such as “play,” “pause,” “next track,” and “previous track.” Media can now be operated in the browser in this way without the intervention of a mouse. The media buttons also respond when Chrome is running in the background.

The Mac version of Chrome can now also handle pwas or progressive web apps. The feature, now available on all desktop and mobile platforms, has also been expanded in Chrome 73 to include auto picture in picture and autoplay with sound.
