Google faces billions in fines from Europe for advertising platforms

The European Commission is imposing a massive €3 billion fine on Google. The EU believes the search engine company violated competition rules regarding online advertising. Google disagrees and is appealing. Neither does President Trump: he wants to impose new trade sanctions on European countries.

Unfair trade, says the EU.

The EU accuses Google of giving itself an advantage over its competitors, making it too difficult for competitors to conduct fair trade. In addition to the €3 billion fine, Google has also been ordered to take measures to prevent this from happening in the future. However, it remains to be seen whether any of this will happen, as Google strongly disagrees with what is currently happening.

Google’s Vice President and Global Head of Regulatory Affairs, Lee-Anne Mulholland, said on behalf of the company: “The European Commission’s decision on our ad technology services is wrong, and we will appeal. It imposes an unjustified fine and requires changes that will harm thousands of European businesses by making it harder for them to make money. There’s nothing anti-competitive about providing services to ad buyers and sellers, and there are more alternatives to our services than ever before.”
