Google Pay is available in France

Customers from six different French banks can use Google Pay from Tuesday. With a number of French online services and shops it is also possible to use the payment service. Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are already available in the country.

According to the Google support pages, customers of Boon, Boursorama Banque, Edenred France, Lydia, N26 and Revolut banks can use the service. According to the French FrAndroid the bank Up has to follow quickly. The competitors, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay, have been available to French consumers for two and a half years and seven months respectively

The service makes it possible for users to pay with nfc smartphones after they have linked a credit or debit card to the app. For payments up to 30 euros, the screen is unlocking enough, above that the user has to authorize the transaction with something like a fingerprint or password.

Both Google Pay and Apple Pay are now available in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy , Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In Germany, Google is still the only one of those two and in Switzerland, it is the other way around. Samsung Pay is available in France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
