Google Now on Tap makes it possible to bypass Snapchat screenshot protection

Google Now on Tap makes it possible to bypass the screenshot protection of Snapchat and Telegram, among others. This allows users to take a screenshot, while developers try to prevent that. The ING app is not affected by this.

Taking a screenshot via the On/Off and Volume Down key combination doesn’t work in Snapchat and in encrypted chats in Telegram, but if you activate Now on Tap in Android 6.0 by long-pressing the Home button, you get the option to share the screenshot , Reddit user iCapa discovered.

This makes it possible to save and share encrypted conversations and photos that Snapchat deletes, while that should not be possible. The ING Mobile Banking app is not vulnerable to this trick, says tweaker thefal. That’s because ING uses the Flag_secure option, something that Google explicitly mentions as a way that Now on Tap can’t take screenshots.

Now on Tap is a feature that only works in Android 6.0 and above and is a way to contextually search in an app by long-pressing the Home button. Google then tries to find relevant results. Google will also launch Tap to Translate early next year, a previously announced feature to translate text across all apps by selecting it and pressing the “translate” button.
