Google brings Android apps to Chromebooks

Google is working on bringing Android apps to Chrome OS. The company’s goal is to make the two operating systems work seamlessly together in the long run, but this would be difficult. Google also did not mention a deadline for Android apps to come to Chrome OS.

At the Google I/O event, Sundar Pichai, who is responsible for Android and Chrome at Google, demonstrated some apps for Android tablets that could run one-to-one on a Chromebook. Among them were Evernote and Vine.

The apps could use the webcam of the Chromebook, among other things. The Evernote app also ran on the system with Chrome OS. Pichai spoke of a preview and did not want to mention a release date. It also seems that initially only a selection of popular apps can run on both platforms.

Google has been working on bringing Chromebooks together with smartphones and tablets running Android for some time. For example, Chromebook users can unlock their laptop when their mobile device is near the laptop. Notifications should also work back and forth.
