Google has acquired Sparrow company. The makers of the eponymous email client for Mac and iPhone join the Gmail team. It is still unclear what exactly the internet giant wants with the acquisition.

The takeover was announced on Sparrow’s blog, which does not mention any acquisition amount. The company has five employees who will become part of Google’s Gmail team, but it is not known what they will be working on. It is probably a talent acquisition, a takeover in which a company takes over another company because of its personnel. According to tech site The Verge wants to make Google ‘prettier’ with Sparrow Gmail. The purchase price would have been less than $25 million.

Sparrow also announced that it will keep its existing Mac and iPhone-compatible email clients available to users. Sparrow apps already have support for Google’s Gmail service. Last month, Google already took over Quickoffice, to strengthen the office software branch. With Quickoffice, the internet giant wants to expand support for its own Apps offering.
