Gmail introduces email warning about unsecured connection verbinding
Google will begin introducing a visual warning when Gmail users send or receive email to or from an email service that does not support TLS encryption. Received e-mails that do not pass authentication are also marked with a question mark.
The warning shown when emails cannot be provided with tls encryption consists of an image of a red lock that is not closed. Clicking on this will display a brief explanation and a warning stating that the address in question does not support encryption.
Google will also show a red question mark icon instead of a user image or company logo for emails that do not pass Gmail’s authentication process. According to Google, the warnings will be shown in the web version of Gmail from this week. It is not clear whether and when the warnings will end up in the various Gmail apps.
Google emphasizes that emails without encryption are not necessarily unsafe, but users should be more careful with such emails and not just click on links. Google announced the arrival of the warning in November 2015, but did not provide exact details about how it would work and when it would be implemented.
