GeeksPhone releases Revolution on February 20 for 289 euros

GeeksPhone has announced that it will release the Revolution smartphone, which runs on both Google’s Android and Mozilla’s Firefox OS, on February 20. An amount of 289 euros must be paid for the device.

GeeksPhone announced this during a presentation in Spain where the Spanish-speaking branch of Engadget, which also received the device, reported about it. According to the company, the Revolution is scheduled to be released on February 20, shortly before the Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona. GeeksPhone will charge a price of 289 euros for the dualboot smartphone. Early orderers do have the option to pay a price of 269 euros, although the details are lacking.

In the housing of the Revolution runs the Atom Z2560-soc from Intel, which has two cores with a clock speed of 1.6GHz. The 4.7″ screen has a resolution of 960×540 pixels and there is 1GB of RAM. Software-wise, the Revolution is equipped with version 4.2.2 of the Android operating system. The Firefox OS version is 1.3, currently the latest version. GeeksPhone promises to provide an update to Android 4.3 in the near future, while users will have the option to install the Google apps belonging to the Android OS after booting their phone: the Revolution is probably not certified by Google, making GeeksPhone the software cannot be supplied by itself.

GeeksPhone announced the Revolution in November last year, when it also scrapped the Firefox OS device Peak+. Details about the specifications were also released earlier, as well as some photos. However, the Spanish start-up had not yet announced an exact release date and associated price.
