Fujifilm has introduced the X-T4 mirrorless camera. Unlike its predecessor, the X-T3, the new camera includes a stabilized sensor. The manufacturer says that the autofocus has been further improved and the device now has a fully fold-out LCD.

Fujifilm has given the X-T4 a stabilized sensor, just like the X-H1, but according to the manufacturer, the stabilization of the new camera is better than that of the X-H1, partly because magnets have been used. It concerns a five-axis stabilization that would be good for a gain of 6.5 stops, although this only applies in combination with eighteen of the 29 lenses for the X mount. With the other lenses, that drops to a gain of 5.5 stops.

The X-T4 still has the same BSI sensor in the aps-c format with a resolution of 26 megapixels and the X-Processor 4 image processor of the X-T3 is also present in the new camera. While the sensor is unchanged, Fujifilm says it has further improved autofocus, with face, eye detection and subject tracking to perform better. Fujifilm says an “evolved algorithm” is at the root of the autofocus speed, which would now be 0.02s.

The manufacturer has, among other things, renewed the mechanical shutter, which means that a shooting speed of fifteen frames per second is now possible while retaining autofocus; in the X-T3, that was up to 11fps. The mechanical shutter would now last 300,000 actuations and should be quieter than the shutter from the X-T3. Furthermore, with the electronic shutter it is possible to shoot at 20fps. An increase to 30 fps is also possible with the electronic shutter, but then a crop of the sensor is used.

In terms of the housing, the LCD on the back is an important innovation. It is now fully rotatable and foldable, and has an increased resolution of 1.62 million pixels. Furthermore, the handgrip is slightly larger than on the X-T3 and there is now a switch to switch directly between the menus for photography and video. In terms of video, there are no major changes; the X-T3 could already record in 4k at 60 frames per second. However, there is now a slow-motion mode in which images can be recorded in 1080p resolution at 240fps. The Fujifilm X-T4 also gets a new, larger battery with a capacity of 2200mAh, which now has to last up to 500 images, or 600 if a power save mode is used.

The new camera should be released in the spring. According to rumor website Fujirumors, a limited edition will initially be available due to the corona virus. The body costs 1799 euros, or 2199 euros in combination with the 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 lens. There is also an option for 2299 euros, where the camera is bundled with the 16-80 mm f/4.0 lens.
