Fossil has presented its Gen 6 smartwatches. The new clocks run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ soc. Google previously announced that the watches will not run on the latest version of Wear OS.

In addition to the new soc, the Gen 6 also has an SpO₂ meter on board, according to the specifications that Fossil has put online. The watches support Bluetooth 5.0 instead of 4.2. In addition, charging should be faster; after half an hour the battery should be eighty percent full. Other than that, much of it is the same. For example, the screen is still a 1.28 “OLED screen with 416×416 pixels, while the working memory has also remained the same with 1GB. The storage is also unchanged at 8GB.

With the Galaxy Watch 4 series, the first watches with the new Wear OS 3 recently appeared, but Google previously said that the Gen 6 watches will only get an optional upgrade to Wear OS 3 later. This is optional because the watch then has to go back to factory settings and functions may disappear. This may include compatibility with iOS. Wear OS 2 works with iPhones, but whether this is also the case with Wear OS 3 is still unknown. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 does not work with iPhones. Fossil has set the Gen 6 release date to September 27.
