Download Firmware iRiver 300/500T OGG Vorbis beta
Music player builder iRiver has released new beta firmware for its iFP flash players in the 300T and 500T series. The releases include support for the Ogg Vorbis music format for the first time. The firmwares have been given version numbers 2.10G and 1.20 respectively. iRiver expects to release the final version of the firmware in a few weeks, along with similar versions for iMP players. The manufacturer writes the following:
River has been trying to satisfy the customers by improving their products without changing the hardware component. Therefore even the customers who bought the iRiver products few months or even years ago can benefit the newest technologies without paying a single penny.
Although the new firmware is far from being perfect, iRiver appreciates the interests and supports that each customer provides.
The OGG Vorbis firmware is available for iFP-300/500 series as of today, December 24, 2003. The introduced firmware is the Manager version and the UMS and iMP series firmware will be available in January 2004.
The iFP-300T/500T series does not support 500Kbps bit rate Ogg files. The supported bit rate range is 96Kbps ~ 360Kbps. To reduce inconveniences, iRiver would like to supply the bit rate converting program.
The CDgOGG converting program will be included in the next update of Manager program that will be available approximately in January 2004.[break]The firmware for the iFP-599T, iFP-595T and iFP-590T is available here† Owners of an iFP-395T, iFP-390T or iFP-380T should here to be. The latter has the following warning:[/break]This firmware is the MP3/OGG Manager Version. The UMS version will be released later. The firmware version 2.10G does not support WMA and ASF files.
