Firmware Update: BenQ DW800A 2×2 DVD-R/RW

BenQ has released a firmware for its DW800A DVD burner. By installing this update it is possible to (re)burn DVD-R/RW at dual speed. Unfortunately, there is a major drawback to this release: for every burner that is upgraded you have to pay ten dollars in royalties. The firmware can be this page be purchased. What BenQ has changed in this version is unfortunately unknown. The company does have the following text abandoned

  • It supports 1x & 2x DVD-R media and 2x DVD-RW disc. 1x DVD-RW media is not applicable.
  • It supports single-session writing mode (DAO) on DVD-R/RW media for data and video content backup. Multi-session writing for data back up is applicable using DVD-RW media, NOT DVD-R media, which means that when used for data back up, you should write the data at once if the media is DVD-R disc.
  • In order to perform BenQ QVideo function normally on DVD+R/RW media, you must download a QVideo patch file after the firmware re-flash. This patch file will become available in the very near future via this path: à Service & Support à Driver à DVD ReWriter à QVideo 1.0 patch file
  • For Nero burning software, v.6.3.02 or later version is supported. (Remark: DAO writing mode to create VCD or Audio CD Copy on DVD-R/RW media is not applicable after the firmware re-flash.)
