Firmware update: Apple iPhone 1.1.1

Apple has released new firmware for the iPhone in the form of version 1.1.1. The update can be downloaded by clicking this link or applied directly to the smartphone via iTunes. The new firmware not only brings support for the Wifi Music Store, but also new features such as TV-out and attachments that can be viewed in both portrait and landscape position. For convenience, Apple has put a ‘video tour’ online in which the new features are discussed. That video can here being watched.

However, the new features are not the most important news; by applying the new firmware, the iPhone is not only locked again, but third-party applications are also removed by the update. This was confirmed by Apple last Tuesday and has now become clear in practice. An unlocked iPhone can install firmware 1.1.1, but once the update is complete, the mobile phone must be reactivated.
