EA Sports will release FIFA 21 on October 9 for consoles and PC. The PC version will appear on both Origin and Steam. An improved version for next-gen consoles is also coming. Buyers who purchase the game for current consoles will receive an upgrade.

EA has not yet shown gameplay footage of FIFA 21, but does show a video with images recorded in the engine. Those images should be representative of Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles. The release date of FIFA 21 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X has not yet been announced, but it should be released later this year. There is a chance that that upgrade will be available when the consoles appear in the fall.

All FIFA 21 Ultimate Team progression will carry over from current consoles to the next generation as players upgrade. This does not apply to progression in Online Seasons, Co-Op Seasons, Career Mode and Pro Clubs. The progression in it is linked to the console being played on.

Players who purchase FIFA 21 for the PS4 or Xbox One will be able to download an update if they upgrade their console and then use the upgraded version. If players buy the physical version, they will presumably also need to buy a next-gen console with disc tray. EA does not yet give the option to upgrade from a version on disk to a version that is digital only, but the publisher says it is thinking about possibilities.

The PC version of FIFA 21 is the same as the version for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. EA does not mention a graphics upgrade when the next-gen version comes out. FIFA 21 will be available on both Origin and Steam immediately upon release. The football game is also coming to Google Stadia and there will be a FIFA 21 Legacy Edition for the Nintendo Switch. The Switch version is an update of last year’s game, without major innovations. The Switch version is based on FIFA 19 in terms of gameplay.
