FBI Investigating Second Democratic Party Hack

The FBI is investigating a second hack on the US Democratic party. The target of the action was the campaign committee, or the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The hackers would have been after donor data.

It is so far unclear exactly what data was stolen, Reuters writes. Donors should usually provide their name and address and credit card details to make a contribution. As of June, there is said to have been a counterfeit donation page online, misleading visitors. The IP address to which internet traffic was redirected would also have occurred in the previous hack on the Democratic party. This one was attributed to Russia.

The campaign committee is responsible for hiring candidates and raising funds for the party. The organization has since confirmed the hack and says it has engaged a security company to investigate the matter.

The FBI is also investigating the earlier hack and said on Thursday that it cannot be said with certainty who is responsible for the action. WikiLeaks released a large amount of emails over the weekend, along with information about Democratic party donors.
