Facebook stops Facebook Messenger for Windows

The Windows version of Facebook Messenger will soon stop functioning. From March 3, it is no longer possible to log in with the client, which has been available since the end of 2011.

Facebook does not give a reason for the removal of the desktop client for Windows. The unofficial Facebook blog AllFacebook only managed to get confirmation from a representative of the US company that Facebook is discontinuing the desktop client, but the company did not provide details.

However, Facebook isn’t completely saying goodbye to Windows with its messenger client. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that the Facebook Messenger app was coming to Windows Phone. That, combined with 2013 news of Microsoft’s plans to merge the different Windows Stores into one combined Store, could mean a future Facebook Messenger client that runs on a desktop version of Windows. However, that is not yet certain.
