Facebook pulls new desktop dark mode design out of beta

Facebook has started rolling out a new version of the desktop interface to all users. It has a different design, but also a dark mode. The website has also been completely changed at the back.

The new website, which the company calls ‘New Facebook’, is mainly designed to be able to navigate faster. This happens, among other things, because the code of the website has been significantly optimized. This makes the website load faster. Facebook also says that switching between different page parts has become faster.

The new website will also have a built-in dark mode. This is equivalent to a toggle in the drop-down menu at settings and is therefore easy to find.

Facebook also says that navigation on the site has become easier. A bar has been added at the top, above the News Feed, where users can go directly to various parts such as media, chats, and Facebook Marketplace. Facebook also says it has become easier to create events, pages, groups and ads.

Facebook already announced during its F8 developer conference in 2019 that it was working on a new design for the desktop site. Until now, that was available to a small group of users, but it was all still in beta. In ‘the coming weeks’ the new design will be available to everyone.
