Facebook has made its Spaces application compatible with the HTC Vive. Previously, Spaces could only be used with the Oculus Rift. Users can create an avatar in the app and communicate with each other in a virtual environment.

Facebook, the parent company of Oculus, released Spaces in beta in April. Until now, the VR application was only accessible via the Oculus Store, but now owners of the HTC Vive headset can also enter the virtual space. The Vive version of Spaces can be downloaded from Facebook. The app is cross-platform compatible, meaning Rift and Vive users can meet in Spaces.

In an announcement, Facebook says HTC Vive compatibility is just the beginning and Spaces will work with more VR devices in the future. The functionality of the Vive version is the same as that of the existing Rift version. Users can create an avatar, view Facebook photos and 360-degree videos, play games and draw pictures. It is also possible to make video calls with Messenger and to take selfies of the avatars.
