Facebook will offer podcasts on its platform from June 22. From that date, Facebook page will be able to link their podcast’s RSS feed to Facebook. As a result, a message is automatically posted when a new podcast episode appears.

Facebook announced the imminent release of this feature in an email to owners of a podcast page on the platform, which has been acknowledged by The Verge. When users link their podcast feed, all episodes of this podcast are automatically added to their Facebook page. The episodes are shown in a separate podcast segment on the page in question. The company already published an image of such a feed earlier this year.

Podcast creators can optionally choose to have clips made. That would be similar to Twitch’s clips feature. Listeners can use it to cut short fragments from a podcast episode and then share that fragment on Facebook. This feature is opt-in.

To integrate their episodes into Facebook, podcast creators must further agree to the feature’s user agreement, notes The Verge. These are “relatively standard”, but give Facebook, among other things, the right to make derivative works of podcasts, the tech website writes. This may be necessary, for example, to share episodes in certain formats.

Facebook previously announced that it is focusing on audio functions. The company introduced a Clubhouse-style feature called Live Audio Rooms in April. Users can also record and share ‘Soundbites’ in the app. Those are short audio clips. The platform also announced in April that users would eventually be able to listen to podcasts via Facebook.
