At an education conference in Denver, United States, Google announced that the Expeditions virtual reality app is available to everyone. The app became available last year for a number of schools, including in the US, Australia and the UK.

Google already announced the Expeditions app at the I/O conference in May 2015. It then launched the Google Expeditions Pioneer program in September, which gave a number of schools in 11 countries Cardboard VR kits and access to the website of Google Expeditions. the program. Now the Mountain View company has opened the app to everyone at the ISTE conference in Denver.

Excursions to a large number of locations around the world can be carried out virtually via the app, such as watching gorillas in Congo or visiting the Acropolis in Athens. But a virtual journey through the respiratory system is also possible. Google has also partnered with several educational institutes to create expeditions.

The app also works on Android tablets in 2d mode. The system works – after downloading the content – in principle without an internet connection, but a router is needed because the ‘leader’ of an expedition literally controls the expedition via a tablet. The followers of the expedition can then do assignments in their virtual world.

The app is currently only available for Android and a Cardboard or other VR headset is also recommended. An iOS version is coming “soon,” according to the Education blog.
