Several organizations that manage esports teams have begun a search for players to build teams for Apex Legends matches. Developer Respawn Entertainment has yet to reveal its esports plans.

Carlos Rodríguez Santiago, founder of Spain’s G2 Esports, which has teams for League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, among others, said it looking for players who are good at Apex Legends. Other major esports organizations, including Fnatic, NRG Esports and 100 Thieves started their search earlier.

Despite the widespread interest in playing Apex Legends competitively, developer Respawn Entertainment has not yet revealed any plans for esports leagues in its latest game. Given the interest from esports organizations and the huge popularity of the game, it seems only a matter of time before a professional competition or tournament structure is put in place.

Apex Legends was released on February 4 without a prior marketing campaign. The battle royale shooter already had 25 million players a week after its release and, according to The Esports Observer, the game has already broken the record for the most viewing hours on video platform Twitch. For this, the record was held by Fortnite. Twitch visitors watched the Epic Games shooter for a total of 5.87 million hours in a day. Apex Legends has surpassed that with 8.28 million hours.

For now, Apex Legends will only allow players to play in teams of three, but indications have been found that a duo and solo mode will also be introduced in due course. There is now also a clue found before the arrival of a hoverbike. For example, vehicles and planes are already common in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale, but are currently missing in Apex Legends.
