Electric pushchair from Bosch helps to push forward and prevents rolling away

The age limit for the ‘use’ of an electrically powered vehicle has just been adjusted to zero. Bosch announced the eStroller System, a platform for a stroller with electric driving assistance and smart safety features, including an emergency brake.

Bosch’s eStroller System includes dual electric motors plus a number of sensors that help the parent push or slow down the stroller. The system is not only activated when taking a hill or descending a slope, but also when a strong headwind is registered, for example. According to Bosch, an automatic brake also prevents the buggy from deviating from its line or worse, for example through a pothole; suddenly starts moving from a standstill.

The eStoller System is powered by the interchangeable 18V lithium-ion batteries that manufacturer Bosch also uses for its power tools. There is a USB port to charge electronic gadgets on the go and the system is wirelessly connected to the eStroller smartphone app via Bluetooth. The application allows the user to check the battery status, as well as set the level of support and other personal preferences. It can also activate the alarm function; as soon as a miscreant would like to take off with the pram, the parent receives a notification on his or her phone.

Bosch does not build the pushchairs with the eStroller System itself, but makes the technology available to partners. One of them is the Swedish manufacturer Emmaljunga. This company will launch its first eStroller buggy on the market at the beginning of 2020: the NXT90e. Later, according to Bosch, prams from other brands will also be released. Prices are not yet known.
