Publisher Electronic Arts has announced that the new action-adventure game that BioWare has been working on for five years has been delayed. Initially, EA said the game would be released before April 2018, but now the release has been postponed to the next fiscal year.

At the beginning of this year, EA first reported on the project and announced an April 2018 release. In explaining the latest quarterly figures, EA has now announced that the game will be released in fiscal year 2019, according to Polygon. This runs at the publisher from April 2018 to March 2019.

More specific, EA is not about the postponement. It could mean that the game will be released a few weeks or months to a year later than stated. According to Gamespot, EA CEO Andrew Wilson emphasized that the delay of the new game has nothing to do with how Mass Effect: Andromeda was received by reviewers. That game suffered from a lot of problems and as a result got lower scores than EA had hoped.

Wilson emphasizes that the new game should be seen as a live service. The CEO is referring to online functionality that may be comparable to the functionality of games such as Destiny or Tom Clancy’s The Division. Blake Jorgensen, EA’s chief financial officer, says the company wants to further develop this live service component. Perhaps this is a reason for the delay of the game. The CEO says he is very satisfied with the developments of the new BioWare game.

In February, at its previous quarterly earnings call, EA first released information about BioWare’s new project. Then the publisher said that the studio has been working on the new game for five years and that it is an action-adventure game that combines different genres. It wouldn’t be about an RPG, but the game would have RPG elements such as character development.
