Dropbox follows WeTransfer with Dropbox Transfer

Spread the love

Dropbox has been used for years to store data, just like Google Drive. However, what never did a fantastic job was offering opportunities to share files within the system quickly and easily with someone else. That will change because there will be a new transfer function. Sounds familiar?

Dropbox Transfer

That certainly sounds familiar, because what a lot of people now use when a file transfer is needed, that is WeTransfer. You can use this to mail a file up to 2 GB directly to someone or obtain a link to the file for sharing in other ways. It’s free, you don’t have to register and you don’t need to download an app.

Dropbox now comes with Dropbox Transfer, with which you can easily turn a number of files from your Dropbox into a link that others can download. You can send files up to 100MB with a free Dropbox account. You can also choose whether they disappear after three days (the standard on WeTransfer) or after seven days.

Dropbox Business

If you have a Dropbox Business, you will have the option to send up to 100GB in a transfer and to provide it with a password. You can add a specific expiration date instead of just three or seven days. And, which of course shows so professionally: you can personalize the background of your transfer page.

It is, of course, a solution for Dropbox users, but it is doubtful whether it will attract more people to Dropbox. After all, you still need an account and Dropbox often works with apps. If you already have a Dropbox account, you can go to dropbox.com/transfer to send one or more files. You can also click on a file in the desktop application and choose “Send with Dropbox Transfer”. However, if you use the application on a Mac device, you can only use Dropbox Transfer as a Dropbox Business user.

Dropbox has been testing sending for a while, so it’s good to see that it is now being implemented. But the question is: would you also specifically take a Dropbox account for it?
