Development studio BioWare has announced that the role-playing game Dragon Age: Inquisition, which will be released in November, will feature a four-player cooperative game mode. In it, gamers can fight certain dungeons with each other.

The cooperative multiplayer mode in Dragon Age: Inquisition allows gamers with up to four people to take on special missions, BioWare announced on Wednesday. Those missions are separate from the single player mode of the game and gamers must also create a separate character for the multiplayer. BioWare emphasizes that gamers who are not interested in the multiplayer mode can completely ignore this game. The multiplayer does not affect the single player story. The progressions in both game modes are independent of each other.

In the cooperative multiplayer, gamers will take on missions together and during those missions can earn all kinds of loot, such as new weapons and gold. New items can then be purchased with that gold earned in-game. If desired, gamers can obtain these items faster by investing real money through microtransactions, which then earns them the Platinum payment method. According to BioWare, all items in Dragon Age: Inquisition’s multiplayer can be purchased with either payment method. No items are reserved for paying players.

In gameplay, the multiplayer mode is very similar to the single player mode, although players can only choose four attack skills to use at the same time. The tactical camera, with which the action in the single player can be paused, is also absent. Furthermore, the way of playing is very similar to how it goes in single player, Game Informer reports after a first playing session. According to the American game medium, players will initially find themselves in a situation in which some enemies cannot yet be defeated, because the players still have too low a level. Later, however, the difficulty level can be increased to keep the game challenging.

Adding a multiplayer aspect to Dragon Age, according to BioWare, stems from the success the multiplayer option had in Mass Effect 3. Once development on that game was completed, the studio assembled a team of veteran developers who then spent two years working on the game. multiplayer mode for Dragon Age: Inquisition, to give gamers the chance to play together for the first time in the series. The possibility of offering a full multiplayer campaign was also considered, but according to BioWare, that was too complex to be implemented in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
