Dell has announced a 2-in-1 with kickstand. The business tablet is very similar to the Surface Pro line, with a detachable keyboard, kickstand and support for a pen. The company has also updated its existing 12.5″ and 14″ laptops with Kaby Lake processors.
The Dell Latitude 5285 has a 12.3″ IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1920×1280 pixels, giving it a 3:2 ratio. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass from Corning, has a layer to prevent glare and can display a maximum brightness of 340 nits.
The 2-in-1 is equipped with a dual-core Intel Kaby Lake processor from the mobile U-line. Dell does not announce exactly which processors will be available. The 2-in-1 can be supplied with up to 16GB lpddr3 ram and a 1TB ssd. The device has an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel camera on the front.
In terms of connectivity, the Latitude 5285 has two USB-C ports, a USB 3.0 port, a micro-SD card slot, headphone jack and a connector for the keyboard. Versions equipped with support for mobile internet also have a micro SIM card slot. For mobile internet, Dell uses a Snapdragon X7 chip. Three different chips are available for Wi-Fi connections, one from Qualcomm and two from Intel, of which the top model offers support for tri-band wireless-ac and bluetooth 4.2.
Dell provides a host of additional security options with the 2-in-1, such as a smart card reader, fingerprint scanner and an NFC antenna. Furthermore, there are optional various programs available to protect stored data.
In addition to the new 2-in-1, Dell is updating a number of other Latitude laptops with Kaby Lake processors. The Latitude 7280 features a 12.5″ display, with a choice of 1366×768 or 1920×1080 pixel resolution. The 1080p display is also available as a touchscreen with IPS technology and Gorilla Glass. The Latitude 7480 has a 14″ display with the same choice of resolutions as the 7280, with the additional option of a touchscreen with a 2560×1440 pixel resolution.
Both laptops can be equipped with a Kaby Lake processor with a power of fifteen watts. The 12.5 “laptop is equipped with one ram slot, which fits a maximum of 16 GB ddr4l ram. The 14 “model has two ram slots and can therefore be equipped with a maximum of 32 GB ram. Both models come with a PCI-e SSD with a maximum capacity of 1TB.
The 12.5″ version has a Thunderbolt 3 connection, HDMI, two USB 3.0 ports, an internet connection, an audio connection and a SIM card slot. The 14″ version adds an extra USB 3.0 port. Optionally, the laptops come with a WiGig dock.
Dell provides the same security options with the laptops as with the Latitude 5285. The company does not state the prices and delivery dates of all devices.
