Sci-fi survival horror game The Callisto Protocol will be released on December 2 for last-gen and current-gen consoles, and on PC. The game is made by a studio founded by the Dead Space creator. Many developers of those games also work at the studio.

Created by Striking Distance Studios, The Callisto Protocol is set on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in the year 2320. Here the player must escape from a prison and avoid or kill zombie-like creatures. The player takes on the role of Jacob Lee, a cargo ship pilot. Actor Josh Duhamel plays Lee. Duhamel previously starred in the Transformers movies and in Call of Duty: WWII.

The developer say wanting to combine ‘cruelty, atmosphere, tension, humanity and hopelessness’ in order to arrive at the horror atmosphere. This is how Callisto should feel like an oppressed, closed world and players must be constantly tense. The makers also say that they want to create an atmosphere with light in which players constantly wonder what is in the shadows.

The game is coming to the PlayStation 5, among others, and will therefore use 3D Audio and the haptic feedback and triggers of the controller. Striking Distance Studios cites for the haptic controller the example of swinging Lee’s shock baton or the heavy footsteps of a great enemy. In addition to that baton, players can defeat enemies with gravity weapon GRP and guns.

The game will be released on Xbox One and Series consoles, as well as PlayStation 4 and 5 and PC. The game’s publisher is Krafton, publisher of the PUBG battleroyale games. The Callisto Protocol is led by Glen Schofield, who previously created the Dead Space games. Striking Distance employs dozens of ex-Dead Space developers.
