The free map tool OpenStreetMap has made 100 million edits by users. Users can make changes to the database themselves. The milestone has been reached after sixteen years.

The makers behind OpenStreetMap describe the change in a blog post. The hundred-millionth adjustment was by user Lamine Ndiaye, who added new buildings to the map of the village of Nianiane in Senegal.

OpenStreetMap is an open dataset of addresses and maps that anyone can contribute to. The dataset is used by many software makers within tools. The dataset was first set up sixteen years ago. Since then, 1.5 million users have contributed more than a billion features in 100 million sessions. The makers say that the number of contributions is rising sharply. Only six months ago, the ninety-millionth change was implemented.
