Android Q may get a feature where the screen will always stay on when the user looks at it. This ‘Screen attention’ is included in a beta version of the new operating system, and uses the camera to monitor whether a user is looking at the device.

XDA Developers discovered code for the feature in a mobile OS preview. The feature is called “Screen attention” and is part of adaptive sleep, a feature that was already in previous betas of Android Q.

The code shows how the phone’s screen stays on if the user looks at the screen for an extended period of time. As a result, the screen does not dim and the phone does not go into sleep mode when the user is reading an article, for example. The code shows how the feature can be turned on and off in the settings menu. It seems that the feature will only appear in Google’s Pixel phones for now, but it may also be available on other devices at a later date.
