Version 64 of the mobile Chrome browser for Android introduces a new sharing function that shortens long URLs with a lot of additional information, for example in the form of referrers and trackers.
According to Android Police, this feature was not yet present in version 63 of the browser. Shortening URLs only works if users share a link using Chrome’s internal sharing feature, which can be accessed through the menu. It is still possible not to use the functionality by selecting and copying the url directly in the address bar.
However, there are also disadvantages to shortening the URL, the site reports. For example, text anchors are lost. Google also introduced other changes in version 64 of its Chrome browser. For example, since last week it has been blocking certain advertisements that do not comply with the so-called Better Ads rules.
