China has closed more than four thousand internet websites and removed accounts because of “harmful” information. The action is part of a campaign against unwelcome internet content that lasts three months.

The sites and accounts were concerned with pornography, gambling, trying to convert religiously and spreading rumors. China’s Xinhua news service reported according to Reuters about the campaign, based on information from the authority dealing with the fight against pornography and illegal publications.

A previous campaign, which started in May, has Beijing ensured the removal of 147,000 publications. China regularly takes action against information that, according to the country, goes against norms and values. Reuters describes that the Chinese government last week shut down a porn site that provided livestreams from Cambodia and had 3.5 million registered visitors.
