Capcom has shipped over 100 million Resident Evil games
Capcom has shipped more than 100 million copies of Resident Evil games worldwide. The first game in the series was released on March 22, 1996, for the PlayStation. 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has sold 7.5 million copies.
Capcom broke the news of the milestone just after the Resident Evil Village announcement. The game will be released next year for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC. That game is the eighth installment in the series. Numerous spin-offs and remakes have also appeared in the past 24 years, bringing the total number of released and announced Resident Evil games to just under thirty.
The Resident Evil games are among Capcom’s most successful titles, according to a list from the publisher. More than a million copies of all games in the series have been sold. Resident Evil 5, 6 and 7 are highest on the list; 7.5 million copies of each of those games were shipped.
The first Resident Evil game was, according to Capcom, the first survival horror game. The game was released for Sony’s first PlayStation console. Later, Capcom also brought the Resident Evil games to other consoles and to PC. In addition to new parts, the publisher has recently released some thorough remakes of old Resident Evil games.
