Canon will release the EOS M200 in October, the successor to the two-year-old M100. The new model probably has the same 24-megapixel sensor as its predecessor, but gets a better image processor. The 4k movie function goes up to 24 fps and uses a crop from the sensor.
In most respects, the Canon EOS M200 is similar to the EOS M100. The appearance is unchanged and the image sensor does not seem to have been renewed. That chip of the aps-c format has a 24-megapixel resolution and is equipped with autofocus pixels. Users can choose from 123 autofocus points, while the M100 had 49. The M200 has a Digic 8 image processor and that provides the addition of eye autofocus and a 4k movie function.
When filming in 4k, the entire sensor is not used. The EOS M200 makes a crop with a crop factor of 1.6x. That comes on top of the 1.6x crop factor that the sensor itself has compared to a full-frame sensor. This brings the total crop factor for filming to 2.56x. When filming in 1080p resolution, the entire sensor is used. The frame rate then goes up to 60 fps. The camera can also film at 120fps in a resolution of 1280×720 pixels.
The mirrorless camera has a tilting 3″ screen with 1.04 million dots. The device uses the EF-M mount and Canon releases the EOS M200 including the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens for a suggested retail price of 610 euros.
