Activision’s new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has raised more than $ 600 million in the first three days of release. This also makes it the best-selling new release from 2019.
And that’s not the only thing; the game has managed to reach a few other milestones in recent days. Modern Warfare also sets records on platforms such as Playstation Network for the highest number of digital pre-orders and highest digital sales numbers. Moreover, it is the best-selling launch of call of Duty on PC ever. This proves call of Duty again that it is a lasting game franchise and that the level of enthusiasm is still just as high. An important new feature of the franchise is the introduction of cross-play. This allows players from all platforms to play against and with each other. Players can also look forward to new post-release content that will be available for free on all platforms.
The launch of Modern Warfare does not go without a struggle. The game is currently receiving a lot of negativity from a certain group of people, including Russian consumers. Most of them responded to the simple fact that they are once again enemies for the umpteenth time. The protest on social media and Metacritic in this case are not “bots” who just throw around some numbers. It is evident that consumers outside the West feel the targets of a “brave and spectacular” pro-Western piece of fiction, and that certain consumers in the West feel misled by Modern Warfare and labeling it as propaganda. Without going into spoilers: there are some places in the game where historically many nasty things have happened.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The PC version has been developed together with Beenox, fully improved for PC, and will be available exclusively on Battle.net, the online gaming platform of Blizzard Entertainment.
