During the presentation of the most recent quarterly figures, Broadcom announces that certain departments of VMware will be divested. The products that fall under end-user computing and Carbon Black, among other things, will be divested or adapted.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan makes the announcement during an explanation of the relevant quarterly figures quotes The Register. It is not yet clear what will happen to the VMware subsidiary Carbon Black. Tan does say that a good ‘new home’ will be found for the cloud security company; there would be interested parties who want to take over the company. It is not clear what this means for customers of VMware’s recently established standalone subsidiary.

Tan also does not formulate a clear plan for end-user computing, except that he wants to emphasize bundled use via a subscription for these services. Currently, VMware sells several types of services as individual subscriptions, including desktop virtualization, application publishing, and mobile device management. The Broadcom CEO wants to bundle services, but also suggests that some products be divested. Buyers would also be interested in this.

The tech group Broadcom acquired the American cloud computing company VMware at the end of November for more than 60 billion dollars. Shortly afterwards, the first layoffs occurred at the latter company due to restructuring. This restructuring will, among other things, ensure that Broadcom’s Software Group branch takes over the VMware name.
