Wolfenstein: The New Order will be released worldwide on May 20. Publisher Bethesda has thus equalized the release of the game in the different continents. Initially, the game would be released in Europe on May 23.

Bethesda reports the new release date via Facebook, among other things. In the US, the release date was already on May 20, but now that also applies to the rest of the world. It is not clear exactly why the date has been pushed back. The new date applies to the PlayStation 3 and 4 as well as the Xbox 360 and One and Windows. It will be the first Wolfenstein game to be released in nearly five years. The New Order uses iD Tech 5, the same technology used in the game Rage.

The game is under development at the Swedish studio MachineGames. Although it has no previous titles to its name, the studio was founded by former employees of Starbreeze Studios. The latter developer was in the past responsible for, among other things, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. Previous Wolfenstein titles have been developed by the likes of Splash Damage, Raven Software, and Gray Matter.

Bethesda has also unveiled the ‘Panzerhund Edition’ of The New Order. The collector’s edition, which will be limited to 5000 copies, will cost $100 and will not include the game itself. Bethesda justifies that choice by stating that “this way you can leave your pre-order and you don’t have to wait for this whole package before you can play the game.” What is included in the Panzerhund Edition is a footlocker-style chest containing, among other things, a statue of the Panzerhund, one of the enemies from The New Order. In addition, the box contains a number of classified documents, some emblems, a set of dog tags and a steelbook.
