Beep develops minimalist WiFi controller for streaming music

A number of former Google employees have developed a separate WiFi controller under the name Beep that can be connected to almost any speaker set. The minimalist design provides for just a rotary knob, while Beep is compatible with Pandora.

The large rotary knob is for volume control while a simple touch gesture turns the Beep on or off. Internally, the Beep is equipped with a 24-bit dac, while the sound can be output via a 3.5mm analog stereo connection or lossless via its optical connection. It will also be possible to link up to five Beeps together, so that the same music can be played in multiple rooms. However, Airplay and bluetooth are not supported.

The Beep connects to a streaming music service via WiFi, but the device can also be controlled via a smartphone app. The music service Pandora is already compatible with the Beep, but services such as Spotify and Rdio should follow soon. In addition, music stored on the smartphone or tablet can be played. Apps for Android and iOS have been developed.

According to current plans, the Beep should hit the market this fall for $149. However, if you place a pre-order, you will temporarily pay $99.
