Asus releases curved 49″ monitor with 144Hz refresh rate and HDR for 1099 euros

Asus will release the XG49VQ monitor sometime later this month for 1099 euros. This is a curved copy with a diagonal of 49 “that is aimed at gamers. It includes support for FreeSync 2 HDR and the refresh rate is 144Hz.

The XG49VQ has a resolution of 3840×1080 pixels and the curved panel has a curvature of 1800R, which is equivalent to the curvature of a circle with a radius of 1.8 meters. It is a VA panel with a 32:9 aspect ratio.

This new ROG Strix monitor has a maximum brightness of 450cd/m², according to Asus. The screen also has DisplayHDR 400 certification, the lowest level of HDR certified by VESA. In any case, a maximum brightness of 400cd/m² is possible.

According to Asus, the monitor supports 90 percent of the dci-p3 color space. The manufacturer gives the screen its Shadow Boost functionality, with which dark parts of games can be made lighter without bright parts becoming overexposed. The viewing angles are 178 degrees both vertically and horizontally and the response time is 4ms.

As far as connections are concerned, the user can choose from a displayport 1.2 connection, two HDMI 2.0 connections and two USB 3.0 ports. The tilting, rotating and height-adjustable stand can be used to hide cables and two 5W speakers are built into the monitor. The XG49VQ will be available at the end of this month for 1099 euros.
