Asus is working on new Ares with two Radeon HD 7870 GPUs

Asus is said to be working on a new Republic of Gamers video card with two GPUs. The video card, which should bear the brand name Ares 2, would have two Radeon HD 7870 ‘GHz Edition’ GPUs and 4GB of video memory

The two Radeon GPUs are of the Pitcairn XT type and are baked using a 28nm process, according to Videocardz.com. In total, the Asus Ares 2 with the two Radeon HD 7870 GPUs would have 2560 stream processors, along with 160 texture mapping units and 64 raster operating units. The exact clock speeds are not yet known, but it may be 1GHz.

Asus would have provided the Ares 2 with 4GB gddr5 video memory in combination with two 256bit interfaces. To power the video card, two 8pin connectors would be placed on the pcb. The estimated power consumption would be around 300W, while the suggested retail price is estimated at $800. It is not yet clear when the Ares 2 should be on the market.
