Asus has announced smaller systems in addition to desktops and laptops at CES. Below that is the Chromebox 3 that runs on Chrome OS. In addition, the manufacturer comes with the S version of its Tinker Board, an answer to the Raspberry Pi.

The new Chromebox runs on an 8th-generation Intel processor and uses an unknown amount of DDR4-2400 memory. In terms of connectivity, there is a USB-c port, in addition to two traditional USB ports and a card reader. Furthermore, the device is equipped with an HDMI and displayport connection and should be able to display 4k content. In addition to an Ethernet connection, there is support for dual-band WiFi-ac.

Unlike its predecessor, the Tinker Board S has 16GB of emmc storage on board. This can be expanded via a card reader. The 2GB of lpddr3 memory are the same, just like the Rockchip RK3288 processor. According to Asus, the dimensions and placement of the connections have also remained the same, so that, for example, no new housing is needed.

The GPU present is a Mali-T760 MP4 and there is support for playing h.264 and h.265. With an integrated media player, HD and UHD content must be displayable at 30fps. There are four USB 2.0 ports, in addition to HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and support for WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. Asus has developed TinkerOS based on Debian 9 as an operating system, but the board must also be able to run other software, such as Android.

No price has yet been announced for the Chromebox, which should be released in the second half of this year. The Tinker Board S will be released in the first quarter of this year and has a price of $ 79.99.
