Archos has announced at CES electronics fair that its tablet series G9 will receive an update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich in the first week of February. According to the manufacturer, all devices in the series would receive the new software.

The French manufacturer gave at the announcement a demonstration of a G9 tablet running on Android version 4.0.1. However, the version number will be boosted to 4.0.3 upon release. A number of bugs have been fixed in this. Earlier, the company already announced that it will bring an update for its G9 tablets.

The rollout for all devices in the series will begin in the first week of February. Since it involves many different devices, it is likely that the update will be phased. Certain countries may get the update first, but Archos has not disclosed any details about this.

Archos offers the tablets in the G9 series with various specifications. There are versions with an 8″ or 10.1″ screen, and in addition, the built-in bi-core OMAP4430 processor from Texas Instruments can be chosen for a clock speed of 1GHz, 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz. With the faster versions, you can opt for a 250GB hard drive, instead of 16GB flash memory for storage. The 1GHz version is available in 8GB and 16GB. The models are particularly popular because of their relatively low price.
