Apple’s Mighty Mouse vs. Microsoft Mouse

In his column for the Wall Street Journal, Walt Mossberg features Apple’s first two-button mouse with Microsoft’s latest mouse compared. Apple’s Mighty Mouse features two pressure sensitive buttons, two additional function buttons and a scroll ball for vertical, horizontal and diagonal scrolling. The Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 5000 only has a regular scroll wheel, but it is also wireless and contains a built-in function to enlarge parts of the image. Previous reviews have already indicated that reviewers of the Mighty Mouse experienced problems with the right mouse button and the buttons on the side of the mouse.

Mossberg also has problems with the sensitivity of the mouse buttons, so clicking with the right button does not always work. In addition, he is not pleased with the operation of the two-dimensional scrolling with the scroll ball. Although Mossberg prefers the look of the Mighty Mouse over the Wireless Optical Mouse 5000, he still believes that Microsoft’s mouse works better. That is remarkable, since Apple has the reputation of being the hardware designer par excellence. Microsoft is not known for this, but in this case Mossberg thinks Apple is beaten after all.
