Apple: Touchscreen Mac is ‘unlikely’

Apple states that it does not plan to provide its Macs with a touchscreen for the time being. According to Apple CEO Craig Federighi, a Mac does not have “the right interface” for a touchscreen. Several competitors now have laptops with touch-sensitive screens.

Federighi made his statements in an interview with Cnet. When asked whether Apple was planning to release a Mac with a touchscreen, the CEO said that there are no plans for this. According to Federighi, a Mac computer is not the right type of device to use with a touchscreen. According to the CEO, working with a touchscreen on a laptop or desktop is a strange user experience.

Apple has experimented with touchscreens on the Mac, but the technology wasn’t good enough. Instead, the focus is on developing better trackpads. Apple is no longer interested in touchscreen, according to Federighi.

Competitors are increasingly focusing on touchscreens. Microsoft has increasingly emphasized touch sensitivity in its software from Windows 8 onwards, and several laptop manufacturers are releasing models with touchscreens.
