Apple removes Sign In with Apple obligation and comes with new conditions
Apple now lets developers choose whether they want to add Sign in with Apple to their apps or not. Until recently, this login method was imposed as soon as developers used third-party login options. The American company does impose some conditions in return.
The updated guidelines show: that developers who use login options from third parties or social media companies in their app must now offer a login option that involves minimal data collection. This option should also allow users to protect their email address and prevent them from being tracked while using the app.
The new conditions do not always apply. They expire for apps from companies that use their own way of logging in and for apps from educational and professional organizations that only use educational and professional accounts. The conditions also do not apply to apps with an identification system developed and verified by a government or by companies.
The Sign in with Apple login method was introduced in 2019. The functionality was part of iOS 13. Apple claims that minimal data collection is carried out and that Sign in with Apple users are not tracked when using the app.
