Apple has released a firmware update for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, allowing them to be added to the Find My network. This allows users to find lost devices via Bluetooth signals from other users.

The two AirPods products could be found via local Bluetooth signals with the Find My function, but now they can also be added to the larger Find My network, according to Apple. This feature allows other user’s devices to detect lost devices using Bluetooth signals and determine the approximate location of a lost device.

With this information, users get a rough estimate of where their lost device is, allowing them to get within Bluetooth range of that device. Then they can, for example, play sound to find the expired headphones.

Apple said it plans to bring this feature to the two AirPods devices, but delayed support last month and said it plans to make it available “later this fall.” An Twitter user confirms to add the AirPods devices to the larger Find My network. The regular AirPods will not get support for the new Find My network functions. Find My requires iOS 15.
