Apple postpones release podcast subscriptions to June update

Apple’s paid podcast subscriptions will be made available a little later. The feature was supposed to be released in May, but the company informs podcasters via an email that it has now become June.

Apple states in the email, which is owned by 9to5Mac, that it does so to “ensure we deliver the best experience possible to listeners and podcast creators.” That’s not specific, but further down in the email, Apple acknowledges that podcast creators have struggled to add new content to the service. It also says it has ‘taken feedback from listeners to heart and incorporated it into iOS 14.6’. 9to5Mac states that that part refers to the new design of the Podcasts app.

The function makes it possible to subscribe to a podcast. In doing so, they support the creators in a financial sense and they can get early access to new episodes and exclusive content in return. Apple is also working on support for lossless audio at the same time is Apple Music; that is also planned for June.

Update, 10:30 am: the title of the article said “July,” but this must be “June,” as stated further on.
