Apple gives HomePod support for HDMI-ARC and eARC

Apple gives the HomePod, which no longer makes it, support for HDMI-ARC and eARC. In combination with an Apple TV 4K of the second generation, all audio from a home cinema setup can now go through one or two HomePods.

The option is in beta, MacRumors reports. If you want to try it out, you have to navigate to the settings in the Apple TV and activate the function. With ARC and eARC, the television automatically sends audio signals from other sources, such as a console or a Blu-ray player, to, in this case, the Apple TV. The techniques make it possible to play audio through a different speaker than the built-in copies of the TV, but without having to lay extra cables.

The update is somewhat striking, as the HomePod is no longer being made. Apple announced in March that it would ‘focus on the HomePod Mini’ from that moment on, while this new feature is now exclusively available for the HomePod. Perhaps this function will also come to the Mini later or will also be included in a possible successor to the HomePod.
