Apple will shut down the Android and iOS versions of magazine application Texture on May 28. Last year, the Windows version was already deleted. Apple acquired Texture last year to use the knowledge for the recently announced Apple News+.

Texture users have received a message stating that the service will end on May 28th and this is also stated in a faq on the website. Subscriptions will be discontinued and customers will be directed to Apple News+, Apple’s revamped news service to which magazines have also been added. Texture users get one month of free access to Apple News+, but that goes for everyone. This new service from Apple does not work on Android.

Texture is a magazine reading app. Users could purchase a subscription for $10 a month to read unlimited content from various publishers. The apps for iOS and Android are currently still available, but will no longer be available after May 28.

Last year, Apple already stopped the Windows version of Texture, which was a few months after Apple acquired the app. While Apple never said it literally, it’s likely that the company used Texture technology or expertise to set up its own magazine subscription service.
